With a unique perspective on how the Middle Ages are approached, the program has enjoyed increased popularity and interest. The program views medievalism in a refreshingly different manner, examining issues such as gender and class, fine arts, literature, architecture and music as well as how the Middle Ages have been seen and exploited through the centuries until now. The movie industry has long had in interest in medievalism as seen in films such as The Lion in Winter, Camelot, A Knight's Tale and Lord of the Rings. Visitors to the Colloquium will find an all-day, student-centered event designed to help the Laurier community find out what medievalists do and what Medieval Studies offers to students at Laurier. The event will also feature Kathryn Finter, a Canadian artist and one of the few specializing in fifteenth-century materials and techniques of panel painting and manuscript illumination. Ms Finter will run a special Illumination workshop in the Paul Martin Centre in the afternoon. If interested in the afternoon workshop with Ms Finter, please register with Kathy Cawsey at ext. 3555. There is a $30.00 fee to cover the expenses of the materials. There is still room. Don't miss such a rare opportunity! For more information and a list of events, see the Medieval Studies Website - http://www.wlu.ca/homepage.php?grp_id=293.
