National and international speakers will come together at the U of L to address the subject of genocide at a unique conference and symposium that takes place October 27 to 29. Entitled 'Genocide Generation: Remembrance and Reconciliation…or Repetition?' the underlying themes are remembrance and reconciliation. Topics include world response and responsibility in light of recent world events (Rwanda, Sudan), memory, survival stories, religion and atrocity, the Canadian context – First Nations peoples, genocide and women, and trust and reconciliation. In addition to public presentations, Genocide Generation includes arts and cultural events focused on the Holocaust – concerts of music written by people interned at Terezenstadt presented by the U of L Music Department, and an art exhibition entitled "Reflect; Goodwin, Spero, and Steinman" at the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery. All events are open to the public. The talks and gallery exhibition are free. Admission for the concert is $15 (regular) and $10 (student/senior). As well, a joint Liberal Education and Fine Arts course is being offered this semester. Professors from across campus offer a multi-disciplinary view of genocide. The class takes place each Tuesday from 3:05-5:40 in room L1060. Many of these lectures will be available through live webcast. Visit http://www.uleth.ca/genocide for a complete conference schedule, music and art gallery information, details on in-class speakers and on how to link to the lecture webcasts. -- U of L Communications and Public Relations Contact: Bob Cooney, Communications and PR Officer (403) 382-7173
