The Ontario Trillium Foundation provides $624,900 to Carleton University

(Ottawa)-- In one of its largest grants ever, the Ontario Trillium Foundation recently approved a grant of $624,900 over 30 months to Carleton University on behalf of a collaborative of three non-profit organizations: the Community Economic Development Technical Assistance Program (CEDTAP), based at Carleton University; the Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op), and the Ontario division of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (O-CCEDNET).

"We are very proud to work alongside our partners in this important effort", says Ted Jackson, Chair of the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation, at Carleton University. "This unique collaborative will support non-profits and cooperatives in finding new solutions to the energy, health and home care; and, social integration challenges that Ontarians face. This project is about helping citizens make a better Ontario--one of fairness and opportunity".

The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will be used to build the capacity of the social economy sector through technical assistance, support to develop the Ontario-wide knowledge sharing network, and story-telling and case study development for practice-based learning, and case-building for financial support. CEDTAP and On Co-op will support at least 25 local CED and co-operative initiatives. CEDTAP will work with key partners, including Bell Canada and Imagine Canada, to engage Canadian corporations to invest in the social economy. The Ontario CED Network will strengthen the bilingual network of CED organizations across the province through strategic planning and knowledge exchange, and will engage provincial ministries in policy development. On Co-op will develop practitioner-training curriculum for CED in the areas of renewable energy, health and homecare, to be offered through a virtual education centre. The partners will also produce and disseminate 25 stories of CED/cooperative innovation, to be used in public-policy discussions, media events and public education.

This major grant will be announced at the fifth annual Co-operative Gala, held Oct. 19 at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, ON. More than 250 co-op and credit union leaders and champions from across the province will gather at the Co-op Gala, hosted by the Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op).
