On Tuesday, Oct. 18^th, the U of C is launching "U-Bike", a free campus-wide bicycle program. The concept is simple; abandoned bikes have been fixed up, painted bright yellow and red (the university’s colours), and will be distributed at various locations around campus. People will be able to ride them anywhere on the main campus and when they’re done they’ll simply leave the bike in the rack for someone else to use. The program is part of the university’s Sustainability Initiative. It’s designed to help promote awareness of environmentally-friendly transportation alternatives, along with health and wellness. "U-Bike" was introduced to students and staff as a pilot test at two events this year and the concept was well received. Some of the people who’ve already used the program, along with the organizers, will be available for interviews and a photo op with the bikes on Tuesday, October 18, 2005.
