The annual student-run conference for medical students from across Ontario starts with a gala dinner tonight at Museum London, followed by workshops, speaker events and other social activities on Saturday and Sunday. The theme of this year's conference, "Medicine in the Media: Medicine is the Message", acknowledges how media serves as a connection between Canadians and their perceptions of the health care system. Participants will take part in a diverse set of activities to explore the realities behind media-saturated topics ranging from crime scene investigation to the adrenaline filled rooms of the ER. The conference, hosted each fall by an Ontario medical school, is designed to provide a forum in which pre-clinical medical students can experience learning opportunities that go beyond the scope of their academic studies. It also gives them a chance to interact and meet their future colleagues. - 30 - For more information, please contact Clarissa Holding at (519) 868-6264 or cholding2008@meds.uwo.ca or Christine Roulston, Communications and Public Affairs, at (519) 661-2111 ext. 85165.
