The award is presented to the student graduating at Fall Convocation with the highest cumulative overall average receiving their first honours degree. Schultz will graduate with a combined Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Linguistics and Sociology. "Ms. Schultz is a remarkable student who has achieved outstanding results while at Brock," says Brock's Acting President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Terry Boak. "It takes dedication and hard work to reach this level of scholarship and I applaud her tremendous accomplishment." Schultz, a resident of St. Catharines, started her academic career at Brock on a part-time basis as a mature student in 1999. She enrolled full-time in the Fall of 2000, but had to take a year off while pursuing her degree for personal health reasons. The 50-year-old mother and grandmother is looking forward to spending extra time with her family, but is still actively involved with the Brock community as a teaching assistant with the Department of Sociology. "I am very humbled to be receiving such a distinguished award at this year's Fall Convocation," says Schultz. "It is an honour to be recognized after being away from academic life for such an extended period of time." Brock University will confer 379 undergraduate degrees from all six faculties, 135 graduate degrees, 71 education degrees and 24 certificates at the 2005 Fall Convocation, being held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m., in the Walker Complex at the west end of campus, in the Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium. An outdoor reception for graduates, family members and other special guests will be held after the ceremony. This year, Brock takes great pride in awarding an honorary degree to the two chief executives and co- founders of War Child Canada - Dr. Samantha Nutt, Executive Director, and Dr. Eric Hoskins, President - in recognition of their contributions to Canadian public life and distinguished humanitarian service around the world.
