November 24, 2005 Source: University of New Brunswick - Saint John: http://www.unb.ca/news/view.cgi?id=918 SAINT JOHN TIMES FOUR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED BY FORMER UNB SAINT JOHN INSTRUCTOR November 24, 2005 UNB Saint John News Release: M-05-80 Dan Tanaka, Communications Manager (506) 648-5697 For 15 years, The Saint John NB – Times Four Scholarship has been awarded to students in recognition off their community involvement. Founded by former UNB Saint John Faculty member Rosi Jory in 1990, this year three students were recognized. Ms. Jory made the presentations on October 29 to students Sarah Dail, Alison Gayton and Hui Liu. Sarah Dail is a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts student who has been active in her church and as music director in summer camp, where she was responsible for teaching music to over 200 and leading the opening and closing sessions every day. Sarah credits a term in France as part of UNB Saint John’s Study Abroad program for heightening her awareness of the international community on her home campus. Alison is also a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts student who, besides having enrolled in her second undergraduate degree program, Honours Politics, is also a world-travelled artist. Alison plans to "build a kiln of great proportion, one drawing potters from around the earth to fire in Saint John, maybe even with Saint John clay." Alison is also an alumni of UNB Saint John’s Study Abroad program, having spent a semester in Norway. Hui Liu is a third-year Nursing student who initiated and edited a column in the East Coast Chinese Newspaper that focused on health-related topics of interest and importance to the region’s Chinese population. She says her goal is to provide "information within the scope of my practice, such as a healthy life style." She also wants to act as "bridge" between Saint John and its Chinese community. The Saint John NB –Times Four scholarship was created in 1990 following publication of a book entitled Saint John NB – Times Four by Ms. Jory and several students After the book was published, Rosi and her students decided to use the proceeds from sales to help fund the Saint John NB –Times Four scholarship.
