PROGRAM WEBSITE Bachelor of Arts in Criminology - Keyano College Keyano College's Bachelor of Arts in Criminology allows students to complete up to the first 60 credits, 2 years, of a Criminology degree before transferring to a university to complete the remaining 2 years. The Program offers students the opportunity to engage in an in-depth study of various aspects of crime and criminal and deviant behaviour and how the justice system, including the law and courts, attempts to control, manage, and prevent crime. Designed primarily for individuals aspiring to further their education and/or career opportunities in the field or related areas, the Program will expose student to the knowledge and skills that will both allow them to meet the needs of various employers in the criminal justice area and succeed in advanced levels of studies. The Honours version of the Program may be of special interest for individuals aspiring to Masters' or Doctoral level studies as it will 'prepare students particularly well for' studies at these levels. Graduates of the Program will be prepared to pursue employment, career advancements, and/or further studies in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related areas. Career-wise, graduates may apply for positions across Canada in such areas as border or community services, corrections, crime prevention, criminal investigation, criminal law, insurance, investigations, law and law enforcement, national security, offender case management, policing, public administration, Revenue Canada, social work, the courts, and victim services, to name but a few. Graduates may also pursue further educational opportunities in the field across Canada, such as at the BachelorĘs level with advanced standing of up to 60 credits. Students intending to further their education should familiarize themselves with the entrance and academic requirements and regulations of those institutions to which they are interested in applying. The College has an existing transfer agreement with the University of Alberta. Keyano students intending to transfer to the latter are required to complete at least 30 credits at the College including 6 credits in first-year English. 6 credits in a non-English language, 9 credits to be chosen from core or optional courses in the Arts, and Psychology 104 and 105, and Sociology 100. Students should be aware that 'credit will not be granted for a 100 level language course if a 30 level course in high school was completed in' the 'same language.' To be eligible for admission to the Program, applicants must meet the College's general requirements and the Program's specific requirements. To be considered for admission to the College, applicants 'must be either 18 years of age (by the program start date) or have completed a high school diploma,' and 'demonstrate English language proficiency,' except for the Academic Foundations program, 'as outlined in the program admission requirements.' Applicants 'currently enrolled in Grade 12 will be considered for early provisional admission on the basis of marks received to date.' Furthermore 'students who have attended' Keyano College or 'another post-secondary institution and have received a GPA of less than 1.0 or equivalent may be admitted as probationary students upon the recommendation of a Special Cases Committee.' Applicants that 'do not meet the admission requirements may request to have their status reviewed by a Special Cases Committee which includes a Counselor, the appropriate Program Chairperson and the Registrar. The decision of this group shall be final.' The College does not accept the General Educational Development (GED) as a high school equivalent diploma. Applicants will generally be 'accepted on a first qualified, first served basis when their application and supporting transcripts and documents have been received but 'programs with an enrolment limit, Keyano College reserves the right to employ academic rating scales for admission purposes.' To be considered for admission to the Program, applicants must have achieved at least a 60% average, 'with no mark below 50%' in 'English 30 or English 30-1' and 'Mathematics 30 or Mathematics 30 Pure or 30-level language other than English,' and a 'subject from groups A or B (Social Studies 30 recommended), a subject from group C,' and a subject from Group A or C.' Applicants who are 21 years of age or older (at time of registration) and register as "mature students" must have achieved at least a 60% average, 'with no mark below 50%' in 'English 30 or English 30-1' and a 'subject from Group A, B or C.'
