In 1984 Awni Abu-Ulba set up Utopia Hair and Skin Care Studio in Abbotsford, British Columbia. In 1988 he established the Utopia Academy of Advanced Hair Design, also in Abbotsford. These two companies were the foundations of the Utopia group. Now, in 2006 the company has grown leaps and bounds into 3, modern, award winning day spas and 2 institutes with over 300 employees. The Faculty of Massage Therapy of Utopia Academy trains graduates with the expertise, wisdom and attitude essential for a flourishing career as a massage therapist in the health care industry. Its Massage Therapy and Hydrotherapy course in Vancouver is one of the most inventive and rigorous courses. The Faculty of Esthetics of Utopia Academy trains students with the dexterity, knowledge, and outlook necessary for a successful career in Esthetics. This course is structured to encourage learning and instill self-confidence. The students are technically skilled in facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, body wraps and makeup. The Faculty of Esthetics of Utopia Academy trains students for a successful career in hair designing. The course equips the student with knowledge in the fundamentals of hair art, science and design. Utopia Academy is enlisted and certified with the Private Career Training Institution Agency (PCTIA).
