Profile of Career College/Trade School
Nova Scotia’s intensive training and working skills as compared to those of actual fire fighting situations are so realistic and holistic that though the essential difference still remains, it is understood that the students and participants may undergo certain personal risk or injury. Their mandate is to provide the firefighters with the needful training and professional instructions at a minimum cost to them and their employers. They are constantly developing new ways to test fire fighting equipment and providing the facilities for testing fire fighting equipment. They also disseminate information related to fire fighting and other concerned subjects to all interested candidates and agencies. Besides this they undertake projects which help serve the public from the opinion of the fire department. They offer courses that certify Fire Fighters into divisions 1 and 2. You can also be a certified instructor. There are other subjects such as HazMat, Vehicle Extrication, LPG, Building Construction, Fire Commands and Tactics, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Advanced and Confined Spaces Rescue. It was in the year 1996 that a group representing the Nova Scotia Firefighters School, Halifax Regional Municipality, Cape Breton Regional Municipality and the Offices of the Fire Marshall and Fire Officers Association of Nova Scotia met to begin the accreditation process. The result of the meeting and many more such meetings was that the Nova Scotia Fire Service Professional Qualifications Board was formed and registered. The school was registered with the Joint Registry of Joint Stock Companies. The board also decided to become affiliated with the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or IFSAC.
