The JVI Provincial Transportation and Safety Academy was established in 1994 on Prince Edward Island and has the distinction of being the first heavy truck school on the island. The institute is certified by the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council and is recognized and approved under the Private Training Schools Act. The institute offers training in heavy vehicle operation and professional truck driving. The institute has an expansive range which allows students to do a fair amount of practice driving before heading onto the highways. The staff and instructors are all qualified professionals and students are trained on the latest machinery to ensure that they are qualified for the needs of the industry. The JVI Provincial Transportation and Safety Academy offers a wide range of courses including school bus, tractor trailer and straight truck training. The institute also offers classes in private passenger vehicles, heavy equipment operation, forklift operation, training in logbook maintenance, RV training and life skills training. Corporate training courses are available for safe backing, transportation of dangerous goods and defensive driving. Accommodation is available for students with hotel-style rooms, some with housekeeping units. Financial assistance is also available for students who qualify. Graduates of any of the JVI Provincial Transportation and Safety Academy programs will be suited to deal with the challenges and demands of working in the professional trucking and heavy vehicles industry.
