Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Marine Biology |
Admission to a graduate-level program in marine biology requires a previous degree in a related discipline (eg. biology, oceanography) with a minimum B+ average (in some cases this must be an honors degree). Some schools also require some form of practical experience in a marine biology environment such as aquarium work, laboratory research, or oceanographic centers.
Admission to a PhD program in marine biology can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree.
As all graduate programs require a supervisor, most schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
