What is Electrochemistry?

Electrochemistry is the branch of chemistry that deals with the chemical action of electricity and the production of electricity by chemical reactions. This can be natural (eg. corrosion), or synthetic (eg. batteries and fuel cells).

Electrochemical analysis is one of the most direct and accurate ways of measuring such things as the purity of drinking water, the acidity of wine, the structure of the rocks in which petroleum is found, and the concentrations of toxic metals in factory effluents.
