Description of Prince Albert Parkland Health Region The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region offers excellent opportunities for fulfilling careers while providing an exceptional quality of life. The Region is home to about 77,000 residents, more than 40,000 live within the city of Prince Albert, and 95 per cent of residents are within 30 minutes of a hospital or long term care facility.
The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region offers a wide range of services, not only for the residents of the Health Region, but also for people from surrounding regions and Northern Saskatchewan.
The health region employs more than 2,000 health care professionals and has an operating budget of more than $140 million. More than 75 per cent of the budget is spent on employees and physicians salaries and benefits. The health region has more than 50 family physicians and more than 40 physician specialists providing services.
Regional Hospital
The Victoria Hospital is a 120-bed regional hospital and provides a wide range of specialized services. The Victoria Hospital is a major referral centre for north and north-east Saskatchewan. There is an average of more than 4,800 surgeries performed each year and one of the province’s busiest obstetrics department, with more than 1,350 births each year. The emergency department provides 24-hour on-site physician services with a team of nursing staff with certification in Advanced Life Support. More than 28,000 clients pass through the emergency department every year.
The Victoria Hospital also provides a variety of other services, including: ambulatory care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, dialysis, chemotherapy, pediatrics and palliative care.
Supportive Care Services
There are 12 long-term care facilities (one is an affiliate) in 10 communities throughout the region, providing homes to more than 560 residents. Many of our modern facilities incorporate an “at home” setting.
Keeping people independent is the focus of our Home Care, with services provided to an estimated 2,250 people each year. Nursing, personal care, respite, and assessments are a few specialized services provided.
Mental Health
In-, out- and day-patient counseling, treatment and prevention services are available. Traveling clinics are also provided in the region and to neighouring regions.
Rehabilitation Services
Services available in the region include: physiotherapy; respiratory therapy; podiatry; occupational therapy; recreational therapy; community therapy; cardiac rehabilitation; acquired brain injury (ABI) rehabilitation; speech/language pathology.
Community Health Services
The region’s community health services include many specialized programs including: health inspection; health education for new mothers; immunization; early childhood intervention; nutrition education; sexual health education; sexually transmitted disease clinic; counseling services; child health clinics; communicable disease control; dental health; environmental health and public safety education programs focusing on preventable diseases including diabetes education; pediatric occupational therapy program for pre-school children; primary care nursing for client assessment, public education and follow up.
The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region is located over the geographic centre of Saskatchewan. The largest centre in the Region is Prince Albert. There are 22 rural municipalities, 7 towns, 21 villages and 2 hamlets. The Region also has 6 resort villages, 12 First Nations and 4 tribal councils. There are several acreages, farms, lakes and outdoor camping sites, and the natural setting of Prince Albert National Park.
