Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo teaches the art of Japanese Shiatsu massage and Shiatsu massage therapy. Registered in 1994 under the Ontario Private Career Colleges Act, Shiatsu Academy is recognized by I.S.A. (International Shiatsu Association) in Eastern North America and is one of the eight international schools authorized by the Japan Shiatsu College to teach Shiatsu. They offer a comprehensive 1100-hour accelerated practitioner program for current health care professionals in addition to a 2200-hour program. The 1100-hour course covers Shiatsu Theory, Shiatsu Class Practice I & II, Shiatsu for Pathological Conditions, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Eastern Medical Theory, Self-Care Tai Chi, Nutrition, Business Practice, Professional Ethics, PR, First Aid, School Clinic, and Field Work. The Instructors are highly qualified professionals with both clinical and teaching experience. Students who have successfully completed their diploma will be eligible to take the Registration Examination with the Shiatsu Therapist Association of Ontario and Shiatsu Diffusion Society. American students are eligible to attend the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) exam. The school has an on-campus Shiatsu massage center, providing a practical training ground for students so that they can use their skills to practice what they have learned.
