Institution ProfileUmeå University - Department of Law offers students various programs that can train the students to have successful careers in the Legal field. Students can also conduct research in various fields of Law such as, labor, social, contract, taxation, family, administrative law and intellectual property rights. The University has a student population of about 29,000 and it comprises of five faculties. The Department of Law is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Institution is also one of Sweden's oldest educational institutions. It offers several programs through distance mode of education, apart from regular classroom programs.
Umeå University - Department of Law belongs to the largest faculty in the University, the Faculty of Social Sciences and is one among its 30 departments. The institution has a new degree structure that has been designed to conform to the Bologna Process, which is aimed at standardizing education in Europe. Students can now take up programs in three levels, basic, advance, and research. Students can now take up Bachelors degrees of 3 years duration, master's degrees of one or two year duration, and a PhD can be earned after completing a further 4 years of study, after having earned a Master's degree.
Umeå University - Department of Law conforms to the European Credit Transfer System. The institution has a well stocked library that students can use for research purposes. The students are taught by being made to work in small groups.
