The college trains both military and civilian personnel, on aspects of security, both as study courses and at a research level. The three main departments at the college are leadership & management, security & strategic studies and war sciences. The college is also home to the Institute for National Defence and Security Policy Studies.
While the majority of the courses at the Swedish National Defence College are taught in Swedish, there are a number of international courses, which are taught in English. The college is also responsible for training junior officers in the Armed Forces Officers Program and Senior Officers in the Swedish Armed Forces. The college also collaborates with a number of different organizations, including government authorities, corporations as well as other universities and colleges. While the focus is mainly on military training, a large number of courses are open to civilians as well.
