The Sophiahemmet University College is located in Stockholm, Sweden and can trace its roots back to 1884. During that year, the very first nursing study course was started by Queen Sophia with the aim to improve health care in the country by training nurses with both practical and theoretical training as well as clinical skills. Today, the college also provides nursing care via a private hospital.

There are a wide range of nursing programs to choose from at the Sophiahemmet University College. Options range from a three year undergraduate course in nursing to a Magister of Science in Nursing study course. Supplementary courses and single subject programs are also available along with specialist courses and diploma programs. All courses are taught in the Swedish language. The college also undertakes a number of research projects, some of which are being done with international partnerships.

The Sophiahemmet University College runs a virtual college complete with virtual classrooms and learning tools. The college also takes part in a number of student exchange programs either with other Nordic countries or countries such as China and Australia. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the library which houses over 18000 volumes in both Swedish and English. There are a number of reference texts and journals from both regional and international publications. Successful graduates have a number of career options, including becoming a nurse tutor or going in for further specialized training.
