Institution ProfileLocated in Stockholm, Sweden, Södertörn University College was established in 1996- today, the college caters to roughly 12000 students with 750 members on staff. The college aims to embrace the concepts of civic education, multiculturalism and multidiscipline, encouraging students and staff to work together and engage in dialogue that is not restricted to one subject. As a result, students are urged and taught to think in a critical manner, which allows them to engage in their course of study more actively.
Södertörn University College offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses for a range of subjects. There are currently 400 programs that students may choose from. A variety of courses are offered, all falling into the broad categories of humanities, education, life sciences and social sciences. The college is also engaged in a number of research projects and is home to the Institute of Contemporary History and Natural Science Research Projects.
There are a number of special student services available at Södertörn University College. The library provides extensive reference and research material, which can be accessed via computer or in print form. The library also provides special rooms for group study, computer access and help with publishing an undergraduate or postgraduate thesis. A counselor is on hand to help students dealing with emotional problems and a nurse is also available for those who have physical ailments. A chaplain is also available for counseling on both spiritual and personal matters.
