Institution ProfileUniversity of Bergen is a modern, middle-sized, and urban university. Located in the beautiful city of Bergen, Norway, University of Bergen was formally established on April 9, 1946. It has two main campuses in the city. Arstadvollen campus, also known as the "health campus," is where dentistry, medicine, and health care are taught. Natural and social sciences, psychology, arts, and law are taught at the Nygardshoyden campus.
It has a student population of 15000 and employs 3000 faculty and staff members. If we say that University of Bergen has a truly international outlook, it would not be wrong. It strongly pursues international cooperation in research and education. The university has signed numerous bilateral agreements with national and international universities, research institutions, and academic institutions.
Its international educational efforts are not just linked to universities and colleges in the developed countries, but it has successfully established study programs in the area of health, poverty, and resource management with universities in the Third World countries.
Presently, University of Bergen has seven faculties, all of which comprise of 90 different specialized departments, centers, and institutes. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Psychology are the seven faculties in the university.
Being a research university, it emphasizes basic research and research based teachings in all its courses and programs. Besides focusing on traditional university disciplines, University of Bergen also focuses on marine research and development research.
The diversity of programs and the international focus in its programs are what make University of Bergen unique.
