Institution ProfileThe Oslo National Academy of the Arts was founded in 1996 when five independent colleges joined together to form one college. These five colleges are the colleges of theatre, ballet, arts and crafts, academy of fine arts and opera. There are three faculties that these colleges have been segregated into. They are the Faculty of Performing Arts, Faculty of Visual Arts and Faculty of Design. The college offers a single location where students can learn various forms of the arts. There are facilities like theatre auditoriums, design studios and workshops for the different courses.
The Oslo National Academy of the Arts had its different courses taught in different buildings till 2003. A new campus now hosts the Faculty of Performing Arts and the other two faculties are expected to join in 2010. The library of the academy has diverse research materials on the different art forms. It has a huge collection of books, journals and multimedia materials. The library at present has departments located in three different buildings in Oslo. The three departments are the Fine Art Library, the Library of Performing Arts and the Design and Crafts Library. These departments are expected to merge into one location by the next year.
The different faculties of the academy offer courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. The new campus is expected to attract many more international students.
