Institution ProfileThe College of Diakonia and Nursing is a part of Lovisenberg, the oldest deaconal institution in Norway. Started in 1868, the institute deals with Diakonia, which is the practice of holistically healing a person's body and soul. The entire operation employs over two thousand people.
The College of Diakonia and Nursing offers training programs for nurses and postgraduate degree programs in palliative care, inter alia Diakonia, care of the elderly and medical ethics. Students work in close collaboration with the Lovisenberg Diakonlae Hospital which offers treatment in internal medicine and psychiatry. The hospital specializes in orthopedic surgeries and ear-nose-throat and chest problems.
Students of the College of Diakonia and Nursing will also work in conjunction with the hospice that cares for the terminally ill, the elderly care center and the nursery for children. The institution is also home to the oldest hospital museum in the country. Students can find spiritual guidance at the nearby Lovisenberg church. The institute is also home to the only wafer bakery in the country, which supplies holy wafers to churches all over Norway. A guesthouse is also available with a Bed and Breakfast facility- this is mainly used for conferences and other events. A resource center to help those that have been violently or sexually abused has been set up in conjunction with the church. There is also a Holy Garden, which can be visited by all residents of the institute.
