Institution ProfileAkershus University College can be found in Norway at Lillestroem. It offers a number of bachelor and master degree programs under four major faculties. These faculties deal with courses in product design, nursing, social education and teacher training. The latter offers a number of programs on a part time basis. Continuing education classes as well as postgraduate and extension courses are also provided.
The majority of the courses at Akershus University College are taught in Norwegian but classes are also available in English for exchange students. These students are also guaranteed accommodation and prior to arrival the student's, the mentor will stock their rooms with groceries to ensure that new students have something to eat when they first arrive. Exchange students are also given an introductory course on Norway's culture and the Norwegian language.
All students at Akershus University College have access to the library. Students who are working on their thesis or on research projects can book a librarian to help them find material from databases and the Internet. Apart from these options, the library has a wide range of books, journals, textbooks and periodicals available both on and off line. If there is a book you require that you can't find, it can be procured from another library via interlibrary loans. The college also organizes a number of student activities like ski trips and trips to galleries and museums. These are usually organized by the Student Union, which has its own house called Dusinet.
