Institution ProfileAalesund University College is based in Aalesund in Norway and was established in 1994. It is a higher educational institution that offers a number of undergraduate study programs. There are currently around 1200 students enrolled with 120 administrative and faculty members on hand. The college follows a study program which uses ''studiepoeng', which is similar to the European Credit Transfer System. Each year is divided into two semesters, worth 30 studiepoeng each. All students who collect 60 of these credits get a Diploma Supplement in English along with their degree.
The study programs at Aalesund University College are tuition-free and the majority of the courses are taught in Norwegian. However, certain courses such as business and foreign languages are taught in English. Exchange students can club their course work with their project work, which is also done under English supervision. The topics for these projects are chosen based on available tutors and the academic background of the student.
Aalesund University College offers a mentor program for all new students to help them become accustomed to college life. Students also have access to the college library which offers a wide range of books, periodicals, database access and e-journals. The college is also involved in a number of research projects in seven areas of specialization. Continuing and further education opportunities are also provided in the form of short courses, which are designed to meet the needs of the public and private sector.
