Institution ProfileUniversity of Kuopio - Faculty of Medicine has been in existence since the year, the institution began to train students, 1972. The Faculty comprises of the School of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition, the Institute of Biomedicine and the Institute of Clinical Medicine. It is one of the five faculties of the institution. The institution conducts research and educates students in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences. Students can take up programs in clinical nutrition, public health and ergonomics.
University of Kuopio - Faculty of Medicine offers programs in graduate and undergraduate levels. Students, who wish to take up the Licentiate in Medicine program, should be well versed in Finnish, as it is the medium of instruction. Students are offered Finnish Language programs at various levels. They have to take up an entrance exam that is in Finnish, in order to gain admission. The Faculty offers limited number of courses in English, which the exchange students from the Erasmus, bilateral agreements and Nordplus programs. Theory and practical classes are used to train students, giving them a balanced education. The practical part of their training takes place at the Kuopio University Hospital. The institution offers post graduate specialist training programs as well as encourages scientific postgraduate studies.
University of Kuopio - Faculty of Medicine has earned the quality assurance audit certificate, issued by the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council. The students are also given ample opportunities to take educational trips to other countries and it offers students a variety of support services.
