Institution ProfileDrawing on the rich experience of over 70 years of educational heritage, while at the same time embracing rapid modernization, the University of Jyväskylä continues to set its sights firmly and confidently into the future. In the university, the core fields in research and education are natural sciences and mathematics, human-centred sciences, sport and health sciences and teacher education.
The University of Jyväskylä is host to several Centres of Excellence in Research nominated by the Academy of Finland. These centres include the centre of Evolutionary Research, the centre of Nuclear and Accelerator Based Physics, the centre of Learning and Motivation Research and the centre of Political Thought and Conceptual Change.
Joint projects with the University of Helsinki include the Study of Variation, Contacts and Change in English, the Study of Virus Research, Geometric Analysis and Mathematical Research and the History of Mind.
The University of Jyväskylä offers a wide array of study programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a variety of subjects and more than 100 minor subjects. The university is constituted in seven faculties. These faculties include the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Information and Technology, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences (unique within Finland), the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, the School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The University of Jyväskylä has also been nominated as a national Centre of Excellence in adult education.
