Institution ProfileThe University of Helsinki is a leading European University. The university is divided into four campuses. These campuses include the City centre campus, Kumpula campus, Meilahti campus, and Viikki campus.
The City Centre Campus extends around the historical centre of Helsinki. The Kumpula campus is some four kilometres from the center of Helsinki. The Meilahti campus is just a few kilometres from the City Center Campus. The multidisciplinary Viikki campus is a remarkable center of biosciences at the European level.
At present, there are over 38,000 students enrolled in various degree programs in a variety of subjects in the University of Helsinki. The subjects include Theology, Law, Medicine, Arts, science, pharmacy, Biosciences, Behavioural Sciences, social science, Agriculture and Forestry, Veterinary Medicine etc.
The University of Helsinki offers over 1000 lower degrees, over 2000 higher degrees, 163 Licentiate, 378 doctorate degree and 353 other. This makes a total of 4289 degree programmes.
The various departments of the University of Helsinki include the Department of Agrotechnology, the Department of Animal Science, the Department of Applied Biology, the Department of Applied Chemistry and Microbiology, the Department of Economics and Management, the Department of Food Technology, the Department of Forest Ecology, the Department of Forest Economics, and the Department of Forest Resource Management.
Academic research and the higher learning that rests upon it are the two basic touchstones of the University of Helsinki. Research conducted in departments and separate institutions covers all fields represented at the University.
