Institution ProfileThe Theatre Academy of Finland is located in Helsinki, Finland and was established in 1979. It offers a number of degree programs at the bachelor and master's level, in different areas of dance and theater, such as light and sound art, pedagogy, dance and drama. The academy aims to construct dialogue between society and the performing arts, in an attempt to better understand the intricacies of culture. In doing so, the academy hopes to work towards a better understanding of humanity.
The Theatre Academy of Finland is the largest educational institution dedicated to theater and dance in the region. It offers 12 degree programs in different spheres of the performing arts. Barring the master's program in dance, all classes are conducted in Finnish or Swedish. Prospective students must fill in an application, after which they will be invited to sit for an entrance exam. Courses are also open to exchange students, who will be given a custom made study plan for their subject. International students are also advised to take some beginner classes in Finnish before arriving. Those students arriving via certain agreements will not have to pay any tuition fees for their course.
A number of research projects are also being pursued at the Theatre Academy of Finland. Students can also pursue a doctoral degree in dance or in theater and drama. Most teaching is done in Finnish. The academy also holds a number of performances as per a schedule.
