Institution ProfileEstablished in Tampere, Finland in 1997, the Pirkanmaa Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences offers a range of study programs in vocational higher education. The focus of the university is to provide graduates who are specially trained with the latest skills to cater to the needs of various industries. There are 4000 students currently enrolled and 300 staff members who work full time. The university operates four campuses at Ikaalinen, Virrat, Tampere and Mänttä.
There are currently 16 bachelor degree programs offered at the Pirkanmaa Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences. Out of these, three courses are provided in English, namely Tourism, Nursing and Social Sciences. The university also has one master's course in health care and social services. There is also a special emphasis on language studies as a tool to enhance communication and provide opportunities for learning or working abroad. Apart from compulsory courses in Finnish, Swedish and English/German, students may also pursue languages like Spanish, French or Russian.
The Pirkanmaa Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences is involved in a wide number of research and development projects. It is also home to the Clinic for Wellbeing, which offers a number of well being services like therapy and use of a swimming pool and gym. The university is also part of a career and recruitment network which helps students gain employment on course completion.
