Institution ProfileFounded in 1992, the Oulu University of Applied Sciences is located in Oulu in Finland. The university was established in order to meet the business and industry needs of Northern Finland. Thus, the majority of the courses are designed with higher vocational education needs in mind. The university has about 8000 students enrolled and 700 staff members.
Students can choose from both bachelors and masters degree programs at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The bachelor degree courses cover approximately 4 and half years of studying full time, with the course including practical training, thesis work, basic and professional studies as well as professional studies. Out of the 30 programs offered, three of them are taught in English. There are currently three master's programs, all of which are taught in Finnish though plans are underway to start an English medium course.
The Oulu University of Applied Sciences also provides a number of short training programs, vocational teacher training, specialization courses and Open University programs. The university is also involved in a number of research and development projects both at the regional and international level. Students are given assistance in planning their career strategies and study plans via an electronic personal study plan. A range of study counselors are also available to provide assistance in both study and career planning. Financial aid is available for eligible students and all students are also eligible for subsidized meals.
