Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Toxicology |
Completion of at least 3 years of a previous undergraduate degree is required for admission to an MD program. Full completion of a previous degree is an asset. Some schools require an average of at least B in the previous degree (and of course, the higher the average, the better). Additionally, the MCAT (medical college admission test) must be written for admission to most MD programs. A score of at least 27 is considered an asset for admission.
Graduate-level degrees are available to students who already hold a previous undergraduate degree. An average of at least B over the last 2 years is required (some schools require at least a B+). Previous work experience (co-op, honors, directed studies, etc.) and relevant courses (biochemistry, physiology, etc.) are mandatory at some schools. Some schools require the student to have written the GRE (graduate record exam) prior to applying for admission (especially for international students).
Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree with an average of at least A-, or after acquiring a relevant Master's-level degree with an average of at least B+.
