As expected, many graduates of theatre design programs work as set, makeup, lighting, sound and costume designers in theatre, television, film, and the music industry, though there are other possible careers available, particularly for those who have chosen to study a second aspect of theatre along with design, such as acting, production or technical work. Others may be involved in designing exhibits for the purposes of promotion, while still others may go on to postgraduate work in a related field, such as graphic design, interior design, or costume studies.
