Most people with a degree in respirology work in a hospital environment, working either in critical care (eg. mechanical ventilation), emergency care (intubation), oncology (lung cancer), or the actual respirology department. They can also work in the pediatrics department if they have specialized in pediatric respirology.
Other places of employment include nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and in patients' homes.
Respirologists can also work in pure research, doing work in the biochemistry and molecular biology of various respiratory diseases such as lung cancer and tuberculosis. This can happen either in a university or research center setting. They can also work in the pharmaceutical industry to develop and improve on drugs used in respiratory therapy.
