Graduate-level programs (MSc and MA) are available in neuroscience. A previous undergraduate degree in biology, molecular biology, or some other related subject is necessary for admission with at least a B+ average. A medical degree is also acceptable such as in neurology or psychiatry. Practical experience in neuroscience such as that gained in laboratory or clinical research is an asset.
Most PhD programs will only admit students who already hold a Master's-level degree. Some schools allow students to transfer to the PhD program after one year in the Master's program. For all graduate programs, the supervisor must be chosen prior to final admission.
Students with international degrees may need to write the Graduate Record Exam prior to admission to Canadian graduate programs.
