Land resource and soil science graduates emerge from university with a broad base in the sciences and experience in solving problems relating to resource planning and management. Depending on the focus of their studies, they may choose to pursue postgraduate studies in soil science or in one of the related disciplines listed below. Many soil scientists work for federal or provincial departments of agriculture or environment; others find positions in private agricultural firms in research and development, promotion or sales. Increasing numbers of soil scientists are finding themselves drawn to international development work, helping agricultural populations around the world conserve and restore their land-based resources.
