Students begin with the requisite courses in anatomy and physiology, and then start with their practical training. A typical program includes the active participation in the investigation, pathophysiology, diagnosis, follow-up, and management of patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
Practical experience includes training in endoscopy and polypectomy. It also includes training in performing and interpreting laboratory tests related to gastrointestinal disorders, and biopsy procedures. Rotations in diagnostic pathology, endoscopic pancreatography, gastrointestinal pathology, pediatric gastroenterology, liver transplantation, gastrointestinal oncology, nutrition, and pathology are provided as necessary.
