Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Epidemiology |
MD programs are available in epidemiology and community health. Admission requires at least 3 years in an undergraduate degree, with appropriate courses in biology, humanities or social sciences, and chemistry.
Generally, students who are in their final year of medical training are automatically eligible for residency training.
Graduate-level programs are available at most medical schools in Canada. A minimum of the completion of an undergraduate degree (BSc or MD) is required for admission to the MSc program. Some schools require an average of at least B in the undergraduate degree. Training or work experience in a relevant health profession, advanced mathematical skills (eg. calculus or statistics), and a GRE (graduate record exam) score are an asset.
Admission to a PhD program in epidemiology requires a Master's degree in a related discipline, advanced mathematics, and an A- average over the last 2 years of study. Submission of a GRE score may be required.
