Studying Environmental Assessment in Canada |
Students studying EA learn to develop a sound understanding of the processes and methodologies of EA. They are exposed to public policy and social science considerations involved in environmental planning, sustainable development, and resource decision-making. As well, students enhance their existing knowledge of the biogeophysical environment and gain a thorough understanding of geographic information systems applied to environmental decision-making.
Specifically, students learn how to collect, interpret and manage environmental data (through field studies), learn to assess environmental disturbance and prepare prescriptions to restore them, and learn to use the latest software and GIS applications. They also learn to study records for appropriate government permits and requirements, safety standards, maintenance and inventory control measures.
