Studying Emergency Medicine in Canada |
Students enrolled in emergency medicine will take general biology and chemistry to create a suitable foundation. More advanced courses such as studies of the human cardiovascular and pulmonary systems, gastrointestinal system, musculoskeletal system, and brain behavior follow.
Non-science courses are also offered. These include psychology, sociology, and clinical skills, designed to teach the student a patient-doctor relationship and also to prepare them for the emergency room atmosphere.
The last years of the MD are spent in practical applications where rotations are spent in disciplines related to emergency medicine (anesthesia, orthopedics, gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, etc.). Students perform histories on patients, physical exams, and work-ups of patient problems.
