Chemistry has a virtually infinite range of applications in nearly all areas of human endeavor. One of the chief occupations of chemists is the development of new compounds through new arrangements of atoms, and thus they can be found working in medicine, government, and dozens of industries including plastics, pharmaceutical products, manufacturing, environmental and waste management, petroleum, precious metals, and computers. Every level of government requires chemists as everything from supervisors of water treatment plants to forensic analysts in police departments. Other graduates may choose to pursue postgraduate work in one of the cutting edge areas of chemical technology, or move on to medical, environmental science, pharmacology, business or education degrees. The Chemical Institute of Canada (http://www.cheminst.ca/) offers jobs links on its various member pages.
