Minnesota Paralegal Institute offers adult students an opportunity to become a certified Paralegal in as little as four months. Certified paralegals can work under the supervision of attorneys as well as in legal departments of corporations, banks, insurance companies, real estate offices, risk management firm and government agencies. The institution received ABA approval in 1988. The faculty members are practicing attorneys and paralegals who have a lot of practical experience. Minnesota Paralegal Institute offers day and evening classes as most of the students are adult learners. Classes are conducted 4 days a week during the day and 2 nights a week. It is aimed at students who have a have a baccalaureate degree. The students at the Minnesota Paralegal Institute are trained to conduct client interviews, locate and interview witnesses as well as to draft legal documents. They are also given training to conduct legal research, to draft correspondence and pleadings, summarize depositions, interrogatories and testimony. Training is provided to conduct investigation and statistical and documentary research as well as to aid them in the execution of will, real estate, closings, depositions etc. The Curriculum includes courses such as Introduction to the Paralegal Profession, Introduction to the Legal System, Legal Ethics for Paralegals, Paralegal Job Search, Civil Litigation and Trial Practice, Case Preparation and Investigation, Torts, Contracts, Trademarks, Workers' Compensation and Employment Law, Probate and Estate Planning, Business Organizations, Real Property Law, Legal Research, Legal Reasoning and Writing, and Family Law.
