Louisiana State University was established as the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana in 1860. It is both a land and sea-grant institution, one of the 25 such universities in the US. It has nearly 1,200 full-time faculty members and more than 3,000 staff members. It has more than 30,000 students and comprises of 9 senior colleges and 4 schools as well as several centers. Louisiana State University has been offering Paralegal Studies programs since 1982 which leads up to a Certificate of Paralegal Studies. It has the distinction of being the only non-credit paralegal program in the State of Louisiana that is approved by the American Bar Association. The faculty members are practicing attorneys or Paralegals who are experienced in their fields and the students have access to the LSU law library as well as the use of the LSU Middleton library. The student must take six required courses, two paralegal electives, opt for an internship, and attend the one-day legal ethics seminar.
