The Community College of Philadelphia is situated in the city of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, USA. It was founded in 1965 and is the largest public institution of higher education in the city. Over 70 degree and certificate programs are available at the college. Classes are held in the day, evenings, on weekends as well as through distance learning. The Paralegal Studies Program at the Community College of Philadelphia leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree. The curriculum provides students with a strong liberal arts background as well as training in practical skills necessary to be a paralegal. For admission, students are required to take a placement test set by the College. Students may apply to receive credit for paralegal programs studied at another institution. To graduate, students need a minimum of 60 credits, a grade of C or better in all Paralegal Studies courses and a grade-point-average of 2.0. Students should complete all paralegal courses within five academic years. The Accelerated Program can be completed in three ten-week trimesters. Internships are offered to all students who have completed at least 36 credits and have a grade-point-average of at least 2.9. The paralegal program at the Community College of Philadelphia has been approved by the American Bar Association. After completion of this course, students have the option to transfer to a four-year law related program at a university. They may also seek jobs as paralegals in local law firms, businesses and government agencies.
