September 8, 2005 Source: Brandon University: http://www.brandonu.ca/news/article.asp?A_ID=809 BU offers support for stranded students BRANDON, MB - On Friday, September 2nd, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) was asked by Foreign Affairs Canada to help coordinate universities'responses to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. According to the American Council on Education, more than 30 colleges and universities are located in the Gulf Coast region and have been severely damaged by the hurricane. The American Council on Education estimates that up to 100,000 students have been displaced. Brandon University has informed AUCC and the Federal Government of our willingness to provide support for stranded students in the form of tuition relief, class placement and on-campus residency for 10 students. The Office of the President will inform the campus community of any developments in this area.
