Homecoming 2005 - Welcome to Western

London, ON. - Western is opening campus to the community this weekend as it celebrates Homecoming 2005 - Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2. The parade, double-decker bus tours of campus and football, are just some of the activities designed for the whole family.

"Homecoming is a chance for the local community to visit Canada's most beautiful campus and learn more about what Western has to offer and for alumni to return to their alma mater and reunite with old friends," says Anne Langille, Western's Alumni Association President.

A variety of events will take place across campus over the weekend. Highlights include:

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Western and London: Partners in History is the theme for the 31st annual Alumni Awards Dinner. The event is a celebration of the accomplishments of Western's Alumni Award winners as well as the mutually beneficial relationship shared by the City and the University as London marks its 150th anniversary. Alumni to be honoured at the 2005 Awards Dinner are:

Dr. Madhur Anand (BSc'93, PhD'97) - Young Alumni Award
Terry Slobodian (BA'77) - Community Service Award
David Patchell-Evans (BA'77) and Dr. David Litchfield (PhD'87) - Professional Achievement Award

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1

Homecoming Hospitality Tent - Jump-start your day at "Homecoming Headquarters." Look for the festive tents located near TD Waterhouse Stadium and drop in to register for the weekend and connect with old friends. Kids can enjoy face painting, games and activities. Many of Western's Faculties will be on hand to showcase their programs and there will be live entertainment.

Campus Tours - Hop on the double-decker bus for a tour of Western and see all of the changes and additions to campus. Your tour guide will highlight renovation projects, new building construction and all the elements that make Western Canada's most beautiful university campus. Tours will depart from the Hospitality Tent by the Stadium on the half hour from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Five-kilometre Fun Run - Starting in the Stadium at 9:30 a.m., participants will follow a scenic route along the Thames River, cross Medway Creek and return past the Labatt Visual Arts Centre, the new North Campus Building and finally back to the Hospitality Tent along the Thames River.

Homecoming Parade -The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Centennial Hall, travels up Richmond Street and arrives at Western around 12 p.m.

Football - TD Waterhouse Stadium, at 2 p.m.: Western vs.York Lions.

Golden Anniversary Dinner - An event honouring the class of 1955 and preceding years in a celebration of friendships and memories will be held at The Great Hall, Somerville House. A reception starts at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m., which includes musical entertainment and a visit from Western's President, Paul Davenport.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2

Farewell Brunch - Classmates say goodbye and make plans for next year's reunion at the Farewell Brunch at Windermere Manor from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

President's Reception - Graduates celebrating reunion years from 1929 through 1979 are invited to join their classmates for a garden reception hosted by President Paul Davenport and Josette Davenport at Gibbons Lodge, 1836 Richmond Street from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
