This group of adventurers will share the experience and knowledge they acquired on their trip on Thursday, September 29, at 7 p.m., in room E-125 of the Alphonse Raymond Building . The public and members of the media are invited to attend. Admission is free. During their 14-day adventure (June 5 to 18, 2005), which began north of Cochrane in Ontario, to the James Bay lowlands, the students paddled this challenging river that passes through the Canadian Shield. The Kattawagami, with over 20 waterfalls and numerous sets of rapids and portages, is a rugged waterway that required solid river management skills and techniques. During the expedition, the students developed individual leadership abilities, and acquired advanced competencies in river and lake travel, river rescue, navigation, wilderness cooking, client care, survival, and natural campcraft skills. As part of their preparation prior to the trip, they spent four weeks training and following a varied and strenuous outdoor activity program in moving water and lake canoeing, white water kayaking, navigation, and river rescue. The Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program places a strong emphasis on developing quality care for clients and students through competent wilderness leadership, professionalism and instructional skills.
