Mr. Herring holds an MEng (1979) and BSc (1972) with Distinction both in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta with over 33 years of experience in the domestic and international oil and gas industry. He has been a Director of the Canadian Petroleum Institute since 2003 and has undertaken considerable volunteer activity at the University of Calgary as noted below: Member of Engineering Associates Program since 1992. Founding Chair of the U of C Engineering Alumni Chapter (1997 – 2000) Past Chair Engineering Internship Advisory Council (1997/8) Director of U of C Alumni Board (2000 to present) Chair Chapters & Branches Committee of U of C Alumni Board (2004/5) U of C Chancellor's Search Committee Member (2005/6)" He is so involved with the University and is a great example of what our engineering alumni give back to us", said Pamela Bergsteinsson, SSE Manager of Industry & Alumni Relations, of Mr. Herring's award, "He has been a terrific ambassador for us and was very influential in the establishment of our Engineering Alumni Chapter."
