The launch will take place Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10:00 a.m. on the lawn outside the Students’ Administrative Council building, 12 Hart House Circle. Equipped with a full professional bike repair tool set and a selection of parts, the BikeChain will have two experienced bike-repair helpers on standby every weekday afternoon. They will fix flat tires, change brake pads, clean chains and make minor alignment adjustments, as well as educate and instruct bike owners in the repair process. Located in the parking garage beneath OISE/UT at 252 Bloor St. W., the BikeChain will eventually act as a hub for the successful yellow-bicycle lending program of Toronto’s Community Bicycle Network. The mandate of the BikeChain is to reduce traffic congestion and promote an environment-conscious bike culture on campus. The launch will feature a trials demo – a trick biking demonstration – and bike races, as well as food, music, prizes and information booths.
