The conference is geared to enable academics from across the Maritimes to meet one another and discuss how Asian Studies is taught at universities in the region. According to Dr. Bill Sewell, Associate Professor of History at Saint Mary’s and one of the conference’s key organizers, the day-long event will help academics in the Maritimes discover what resources are currently available to them, such as courses, curricula, library materials (special collections, videos), and overseas programs available to students and academics alike. “This [the conference] is a useful endeavor as participants will discover more about other resources and programs in the Maritimes, and they will also be able to meet other academics who conduct work in similar fields,” he says. Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world. Saint Mary's, founded in 1802, is home to one of Canada's leading business schools, a Science Faculty widely known for its cutting-edge research, a comprehensive and innovative Arts Faculty and a new Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. -30- For More Information: Paul Fitzgerald Public Affairs Officer Saint Mary's University, Public Affairs (902) 420.5514 E-mail: paul.fitzgerald@smu.ca www.smu.ca
