September 14, 2005 Source: University of Calgary: http://www.ucalgary.ca/news/sept05/wiebe-psa.html PSA: Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Visiting Writer Rudy Wiebe gives free public reading RUDY WIEBE WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2005 7:30 PM ECKHARDT-GRAMATTÉ HALL, ROZSA CENTRE U of C CAMPUS The U of C ’s Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme presents a free public reading by Alberta writer Ruby Wiebe on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at 7:30 pm at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary. The reading is free and open to the public. Wiebe reads from his soon-to-be-published memoir, Of This Earth, as well as a selection of earlier works. A memoir of a boy’s coming of age, Of This Earth gives vivid life to the vanished world of Speedwell, Saskatchewan, Wiebe’s first home, and describes the story of his early life in Canada and how this experience came to inform his destiny as a writer. Rudy Wiebe, widely published internationally and winner of numerous awards, including two Governor General's Awards, is the author of nine novels, four short-story collections, and five non-fiction works. His latest publications include the biography Stolen Life: The Journey of a Cree Woman, which he co-authored with Yvonne Johnson, Sweeter Than All the World, and the children's book Hidden Buffalo, illustrated by Michael Lonechild. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada. Rudy Wiebe is the 2005 Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Visiting Writer. He is in residence at the University of Calgary from October 1 to October 31, 2005.
